Horizon Arts was established in the summer of 2003 to create original, provocative and engaging theatre productions. Theatre that would challenge the artists and the audience. Theatre that would entertain and illuminate. Theatre that would inspire and respond…Theatre for a new generation. Formed by Artistic director Philip Stokes, the company has expanded to include Hayley Shillito as Company Director, Marie Dalton as Technical Theatre Director and Craig Lomas as Multi Media Manager. Based at Wakefield Arts Centre, Horizon Arts began by creating full scale in house productions using young actors from the West Yorkshire area. The fifth production ‘Everyone Should have a Gun’, was the first to be premiered at the Edinburgh Festival and was critically recognised for it’s distinctive house style and unique take on ‘Theatre for a New Generation’. ‘My Filthy Hunt’ and ‘Elvis Hates Me!’ premiered at Edinburgh in 2007 and 2008 respectively and solidified the company’s reputation with audiences and critics alike. Horizon Arts delivers high quality touring theatre productions and a range of educational and corporate workshops. Horizon Arts still uses young actors from the West Yorkshire area for both productions and workshops. Since its conception, Horizon Arts has been a non-profit making, self financing company.
It is our intention to produce theatre that... ... is written, directed and produced without compromise.
